The newest player in the group ended up killing the scariest baddie and everybody had a good time. The whole thing ends with a shootout where the players get surrounded by four enemies on rooftops above them. I've run this story for other players before, and yet, we still ended up in a totally unexpected scenario where their teamwork allowed them to capture one of the main antagonists for the session early on. They end up getting enticed by a largish bounty being advertised by the local Imperial Authorities. The story began just as they were finishing up some boring delivery and stopping though a space port for drinks and maybe look for a little work. My players crew a YT model freighter they all acquired shared ownership of due to a mistake on the part of the previous owner. Dealing with that is really my job though, and I'm getting a lot better at it.Įverything came together in a session I was running last week. So, combat can be horribly slow and end up sucking up huge portions of play time.
In Genesys, there are 6 different types of die that contribute to the pool, and it can take a while for players to become proficient in pooling and tallying the results. Even in d6 or d10 systems, you're just pooling a certain number of one kind of die. The dice, while I love them, are also a huge obstacle. But, writing a story in a huge galaxy where there are no rails and everyone can travel above lightspeed while also making sure that the rules are doing their job requires countless hours of prep time and dry runs. Players cannot go off the rails if their aren't any. My strong suit is writing the story, and making sure that *every* player decision fits into the narrative arc. I'm new to GMing and my brain hurts from trying to balance all the parts of play. I'm also the Game Master for my current group, and it's been a blast. It's a little weird and convoluted, but once you get over the learning curve and it flows, it makes for some really interesting turns of events. It's based in the Genesys System from the same company. Rather than making skill checks against a DC, you roll a pool of dice where colors and symbols oppose and cancel each other out. Star Wars: Edge of the Empire (Fantasy Flight Games) For those unfamiliar, it's the newest of the 3 Star Wars TTRPGs. This is where Rockstar's physical animation started to actually look really good, where they really went hard on an authentic historical recreation based heavily on holding objects in your hands, AND where you could first get your hat knocked off and pick it up later! Also the shooting sucks real bad.įinal thought is that this LA Noire is a bigger precursor to Red Dead 2 than GTA V. I was kinda shocked to see a Rockstar game that is always in a mission and doesn't technically have a completely liberated game state and that kinda makes it feel a tad dead. I just wish we got more of his personal life in the early game. Phelps is a little dry so far but it feels like that's going somewhere. Obviously this is partly intentional, got a be a good detective and use your noggin but I keep running into "but teacher couldn't you answer the question with.?" scenarios.Īside from that, it's a playable police procedural and worth it for that novelty alone. The interrogations are little janky sometimes because it isn't always clear what you're accusing someone of and what evidence you need to pick. I just did the car theft ring case and I think I've got the flow and cues down now.
